Preliminary Idea Evaluation
Top Ten Ideas:

First, I tested my top ten ideas and made sure that they passed the "Amazon" test. For some of them, products do already exist, but they're not very well done and there is a lot of room for improvement to create a more effective product.

Marketable. To get people's opinions on whether they would purchase my top ten products or not, I created an online questionnaire and posted it to my Facebook page. I got exactly 15 anonymous responses to my survey. On the questionnaire I included a sketch of each product idea, with three questions after each: What do you think of this idea?, Could you see yourself purchasing this?, How much would you pay for this? Here's a link to all of the survey data: https://app.surveygizmo.com/Reportsview?key=315099-3639545-eb8efd5ebcbd28bdd215a58bc20a4689&mode=html
Below is a summarized report, with the final purchase likelihood of each product from the survey:

So, from the feedback of my surveying, I was able to narrow down the top five products.
Top Five Product Ideas:
  1.  Minimalist Branding for Sexual Health Products
  2. Monthly Sexual Health Gift Box Subscription
  3.  Sexual Health Vending Machines
  4. Female Sexual Empowerment Products and Campaign
  5. Sexual Health Kit

Novel. The next step was to benchmark what products already exist that are similar to my top five product ideas. To do this I searched on Google, as well as Pinterest and Amazon to find similar products. I then created a 2X2 for each product that visualized all of the related products.
I also did a preliminary patent search on each of my top five ideas to see if there were any existing patents that related to my ideas.

1. Minimalist Branding for Sexual Health Products

Related Patents: I could not find any patents that were related to minimalist packaging for sexual health products, or even sexual health packaging.

2. Monthly Sexual Health Gift Box Subscription

Related Patents: There really isn't anything here that is patentable. I did the search for monthly sexual health subscriptions, sexual health gift boxes, and similarly worded things and could not find anything that related. This would be more of a trademark thing, with the packaging and logos associated with the gift boxes.

3. Sexual Health Vending Machines

Related Patents: Obviously I found some patents for vending machines that existed, and even a wall mounted, touch screen vending machine (which is what this most likely would be.) I did not find any patents directly relating to sexual health vending machines, though.

4. Female Sexual Empowerment Products and Campaign

Related Patents: This is an idea/campaign, so it is not patentable. Although, it could be trademarked for logos, slogans, etc.

5. Sexual Health Kit

Related Patents: I did not find any patents relating to sexual health kits. Since the products that would be in the kit already exist, I'm not sure it's a patentable idea. Again, though it could possibly be trademarked.

Feasible. The final step of this assignment was to determine what will be the biggest concern related to making each product. Also, I did a rough cost assessment for each of my top five ideas.

1. Minimalist Branding for Sexual Health Products

     Concerns:
    • Making packaging for sexual health products that is minimal, but still able to convey the information that customers need
    • Cost. With less conventional packaging shapes, there may be an increase in cost for manufacturing
     Rough Manufacturing Cost Estimate:
    •  12 Latex condoms with round wrappers and round recycled cardboard packaging: $4.80

2. Monthly Sexual Health Gift Box Subscription

      Concerns:
    •  Making it as approachable and cost effective as possible for college students
    • Getting the word out to college students about the subscriptions
    • How to gather the products needed to create the gift boxes each month
       Rough Manufacturing Cost Estimate:
    •   The only thing that would need to be manufactured is the packaging for the gift boxes
    •  1 Gift Box: $0.36
3. Sexual Health Vending Machines

      Concerns:
    • Cost!! How to make a well designed vending machine with a variety of products, without the end products being too expensive
     Rough Manufacturing Cost Estimate:
    • Metal wall mounted vending machine with touch screen: $180

4. Female Sexual Empowerment Products and Campaign

      Concerns:
    • An effective slogan/logo for the campaign and products that gets the idea of women sexual empowerment across
      Rough Manufacturing Cost Estimate:
    • Tin condom holder and condom with printed logo:  $1.39

5. Sexual Health Kit

     Concerns:
    •  Gathering the products that would be sold in the kit. Make them especially for the kit or get existing products to include in the kit? Want the aesthetic of the kit to be consistent.
    • Cost of the gift box being low enough to appeal to college students, but still include a variety of products
   Rough Manufacturing Cost Estimate:
    • Sexual Health Kit with 5 varieties of condoms, 2 kinds of lubricant, and sexual health booklet: $4.60

  1. I like how your survey results are represented. Having a visual of the product to go along with the survey results makes it easier to connect the product with the results. Additionally, I think that the pie charts do a good job of putting your results into perspective.

I wish you had included the costs that your survey participants were willing to pay on your blog post as well as being available in your link to the survey. This data shown in a chart or even just an average would have been nice to see how "marketable" the products were.

What if you had included prices in some of you 2X2s? Would showing prices help clarify what constitutes as inexpensive vs expensive in the product category?

  2. I LIKE how you display visuals. Everything is always very clean, professional and easy to interpret. I've never had a doubt about ideas you try to get across.

I WISH I could see how you calculated your manufacturing costs. It is hard to tell where you came up with the values, and there is nothing really to compare them to (how much are people willing to pay? how much do other similar products cost?).

WHAT IF you talked a little bit more about what makes your vending machine different from ones that already exist. I know you have mentioned the touch screen but maybe describing the display or any major differentiating factors would help people visualize why your vending machine is the one to purchase from.
